This Tired Sideboard Has Been Restored

26 September 2025
This was a tired old mahogany unit

This sideboard began as a tired old wooden piece in dark mahogany, worn and heavy in appearance. The first step was to carefully strip back the old finish, removing years of varnish and dull paintwork to reveal a clean foundation ready for transformation. Once prepared, I worked with specialist paints to create a deep, rich blue that immediately gave the piece a new identity-modern, yet timeless.

To elevate the design further, I introduced delicate touches of gold leaf to the detailing. This technique not only highlighted the carved features and ornate lines but also gave the sideboard a sense of luxury and sophistication. Layer by layer, the gold leaf was applied with precision, bringing light and contrast against the depth of the blue paint.

The result is a striking reinvention: a once-forgotten mahogany sideboard, now reborn with a bold colour palette and shimmering gold accents.
